School Development Plan Update

The School Development Plan (SDP) outlines our strategic priorities for improvement, guiding training, efforts, and financial commitments. To ensure meaningful, lasting change, each SDP spans several years; the current plan runs from 2023 to 2026. This year, we are focused on High-Quality Teaching and Learning, Health and Wellbeing, and School Communications. Highlights of this term's achievements are shared below.

Teaching and Learning

High-level English is a cornerstone of BSGC, and the Primary Department is enhancing the English Curriculum to ensure students are challenged. Key initiatives include work moderation between Tafira and South campuses, use of high-standard exemplars, and the introduction of creative writing lessons. Early feedback shows notable improvements among students.

Learning Walks

Frequent classroom visits by BSGC school leaders are essential for understanding the daily school environment and the quality of learning. This term, senior leaders conducted 393 visits, whilst other leadership staff made additional complementary visits.

Artificial Intelligence

AI is increasingly impacting our daily lives, and BSGC has formed a working group to address its ethical and responsible use in education and administration. This group includes a staff member who contributed to a UNESCO forum advising world leaders. The team aims to provide comprehensive information and guidance for staff and parents.

Health and Wellbeing

Expanding physical activity opportunities is a key focus of the SDP. Highlights this term include:

512 weekly participants in after-school sports activities.
150 weekly participants in Secondary lunchtime sports activities.
112 secondary students represented BSGC in local sports competitions.
12 pupils played for BSGC in the World Football Cup in Barcelona.
New sports clubs added: Athletics, Dance Academy, tennis (Tafira), and gymnastics (South).

Online Health and Wellbeing

Student health and wellbeing remain a priority. This term, workshops focused on emotional wellbeing and online safety, delivered by police and external experts. Teachers developed new curriculum materials to enhance online safety education. Parents were also involved through Primary workshops and sessions with invited specialists, Pantallas Amigas.

Global Citizenship

At BSGC, understanding one’s responsibilities in the world is a core value. This term, students showed their commitment through impactful initiatives, including raising 5,341€ for Valencia, contributing 258 shoeboxes to the Shoebox Collection, and donating 524kg to Banco de Alimentos. South students also participated in a beach clean-up, while Primary and Secondary supported Save the Children Fund through a Christmas Jumper appeal.

Broadening Global Perspectives

BSGC emphasizes extending learning beyond the classroom into the wider world. Highlights this term included a Physics trip to Switzerland, where students visited the CERN Hadron Collider and the UN Centre in Geneva, and participation in an international debate competition. Students engaged in thought-provoking debates with peers from Portugal, Nigeria, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, showcasing their global perspective and critical thinking skills.
