BSGC Student Voice

Introduction

Our students were first trained on the Learn to Lead programme in September 2018.

The Learn to Lead programme offers the opportunity for all students to gain leadership experience through their engagement in team projects that improve their school and wider communities. All teams receive training to work together, make plans and run meetings and activities to achieve their goals.

We currently have 4 Project Teams:

  • Environmental
  • Fundraising/ Charity
  • School development/ Current student issues
  • Equality (bullying, racism, LGBT, sexism…)

Each team has:

  • A link teacher (whose role is to give guidance to the team and support them with administrative tasks)
  • A facilitator (student preparing agendas for the team, keeping the team files organised and up-to-date, liaising with the Student Voice coordinator, ensuring the meetings are run well)
  • A note taker (recording the minutes of the meetings)

Student Voice Student Coordinator

Some of the important responsibilities coming with this position involve:

  • Being “the face” of Student Voive at the BSGC and the first point of contact between our student body and the Student Voice teams, sharing ideas of events and projects from non- members with the adequate team(s);
  • Supporting the Student Voice coordinator (Nathalie Froidevaux) and link teachers during team trainings;
  • Leading Student Voice forums and assemblies;
  • Supporting teams with their individual projects;
  • Assisting teams with the implementation of the Student Voice tools and use of Google Classroom;
  • Connecting and coordinating teams on common projects, whenever suitable;
  • Assisting link teachers with administrative tasks.
  • Promoting Student Voice projects and events via Social Media.

We have a termly Forum.

The forum brings together all the members of the project teams, the link teachers and the Student Voice Coordinator. The forum is to communicate the ongoing work of the project teams, share ideas and discuss any issues, concerns or interests that relate to the work of the team members.

The Student Voice Coordinators and the facilitators of each Project Team meet up with the Headmaster every half-term.
